Above the Human Genome

April 7, 2012, First Day of Unleavened Bread

Welcome to the First Day of Unleavened Bread.  If you would, please turn to Romans chapter 1:20.  This is the Scripture we use to talk about the comparison between the physical and spiritual.  Let’s refresh our memories.  Romans 1, verse 20:  “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse…”

This is speaking about brethren.  We are without excuse.  We should understand the very thoughts and the mind of God by looking at creation, because His fingerprints and His thinking are behind everything.  Of course, that would include the human body.  Today we are going to talk about the human genome and compare it to the spiritual, in essence, so that we can see that indeed mankind is made in the image and likeness of God in perhaps more ways than we thought.

In recent years there was a big scientific project called “The Human Genome Project.”  In this project scientists from around the world raced to map the human genome to determine every gene in the human body and what it does.  With the use of powerful super computers, they could get this map of the human genome.  It is interesting because they compared it with animals and insects that they had already done.  We are not that much more complicated than animals and insects, which was surprising to them.

The scientists wanted to achieve big things.  When they mapped out the human genome, they said this is going to lead to all kinds of wonderful things.  There will be tremendous possibilities for us!  We could determine genetic predispositions for disease.  We could fix genetic damage.  We could cure diseases by switching and changing genes.  Of course, we could prevent disease from ever striking in the first place.  They had hopes to deal with mental illness.  They thought perhaps they could preprogram babies so we would have better children.  They thought we would be building spare parts that we could use in the future by taking a bit of our genome and building a part.  Then in the future, we could have a spare heart, kidney, or whatever.

The possibilities seemed endless.  All we had to do was map the human genome.  That would be humanity in charge of our own destiny.  We would be in charge of how long we live, how healthy we live, and what the future of our children would be.  They were excited.  It would be the triumph of centuries of experimentation starting with simple things!  What is blood?  What does the heart do?  These were things that mystified man thousands of years ago, and they discovered one thing after another till finally they would map the human genome.

Something very unexpected happened.  It totally shocked the scientific world.  The mapping of the genome turned out to be very basic and rudimentary in knowledge.  Even though for mankind it seemed like a tremendous leap, it turned out to be like building blocks similar toLincolnlogs or Lego.  It was literally a simplistic design.  It was very similar to the animals and the insects!

What they found was essentially the genome is as if you were to compare using stone age tools to computers today, only the genome was the stone age tool!  What are we going to do with this?  It was like discovering the wheel compared to the automobile.  We have the wheel.  Now we have to find the car.  Or it would be like flying a kite compared to a Boeing 747.  We have the kite—the genome, now we have to go on and discover how to fly planes.

Let me explain this a little bit, because it sounds a little bit whacky on the surface.  The genome is like learning about the components of a computer.  You buy a computer at the store.  You look at it.  It has a metal or a plastic case.  It has a power cord, a keyboard, and some wires.  If you look inside, you see soldered parts.  You would plug this into your monitor.  The monitor has a glass screen on it.  There are screws holding things together.  You can take it apart and put it together over and over again, but what do we know about it?

We know we have to plug it in.  We know we have to turn it on.  We know that the wall outlet had better be live.  We have to find the various buttons and what they do.  Of course, we have to connect it to the monitor, or we cannot see anything.  But what do we really know about the computer?  We know nothing.  We just have the hardware, and that is what the human genome turned out to be.  It turned out to be the hardware of the human body—the nuts and bolts put together.

All of this knowledge of the human genome was like buying a computer and not knowing what to do with it and not knowing how it actually works and runs. You don’t really understand any machine by buying the machine or knowing how to take it apart.  You have to know the thinking that went into it.  You have to know what the design of the thing is for and how it accomplishes its goal.

In other words, getting the genome was like an open door to thousands of more questions!  The parts did not seem consistent.  You would think that if you saw the human genome, this gene that you would identify would be acting the same in another human being, but they found out that was not true.

Genes do not act the same.  They do not even act the same in identical twins.  They said this was weird.  A gene should be a gene should be a gene!  They would find that it would be expressing itself in one way in one person, in another way in another person, and another way in another person.  One way it would indicate disease.  Another way it would indicate health.  They did not know what was going on.

The scientists quickly discovered that there was something very vast and complex behind the human genome.  They called it the “epigenome.”  Epi (#1909, Strong’s, 1995) is a Greek word meaning “above.”  There was something above the genome.  They have characterized it as being like the software in a computer.  You have all of these parts, your genome, but then there is software running it. Software has limitless possibilities and limitless ways of being designed.  Behind that software is the mind of the software writer and how that person intended this software to work.

There are spreadsheets.  There are computer programs that can do mathematical calculations.  They can be used for trajectories.  They can be used for thousands of different applications and even millions of different applications sending data around the world.  This was like the difference between the human genome and the epigenome.

When they discovered the map of the human genome, they thought this would be the epitome of science.  It turned out to be just another door to open to a brand new world that was vastly more complex than anything they had contemplated before.  They realized there were a number of factors that are above our genome.  For instance, there is mind power—the human brain.  Some of it is our own thinking, and others are programmed right into our body by God at creation.  These functions would happen in your body without you even thinking about it.

They found that there are environmental influences:  the actual physical environment and the things you are in touch with every day and the emotional environment you find yourself in, such as, your culture and your family.  These things bear on your genome.

They also found that there is influence on the genome that expresses itself in one person different from another by turning on a switch.  They are just starting to understand that there are switches in the genes.  For instance, a chemical you come in contact with turns a switch on.  A chemical you come in contact with, turns it off.  An emotion turns it on.  An emotion turns it off.  They are just starting to discover there is so much above the genome that they are going to be years and years discovering one thing after another.

The scientists do have some basic things that they have discovered.  Mind power like your thoughts, your desires, and your emotions turn on these little switches in the genes or turn them off, and they spread through the body.  In other words, you have the same gene pattern in every cell.  When they take a blood cell or a bone cell, there is actually the design for your whole body in that one set of genes.  It expressed itself as bone or blood or hair because of the software God put into your body.  But the whole map of you is in that!  When a gene gets turned on or turned off in your body by an emotion like anger or fright, it gets turned on and off all over your body. If they take it out, it is a miraculous thing.  It does not affect just that one cell.  That would not do anything for your flight or fight syndrome if you had one cell that said, “run!”  It would not help you.  Your whole body gets turned on or turned off by these emotions.  It is a fabulous understanding that they are coming to.

It is the same thing with environmental influence.  The food you eat will turn on and turn off these genes.  There are hormones and chemicals, endocrine interrupters that we ingest every day that affect your body.  They can cause anything from arthritis to allergies to various diseases.  They can also program you to fight various diseases all by little chemical switches that affect your genes.

Your culture, where you were born, and what your family has gone through are stresses and anxieties that affect you when you are growing up.  They program your genome to act a certain way.  If you have two identical twins at birth, immediately different environmental factors and different emotions start changing them.  They look at them 20 or 30 years later, and their genome is the same, but their genes are acting quite differently from one person to another. They are very different human beings even though they started out identical.

They came up with a very interesting fact.  These genes that get changed and affected by the epigenome get a tag put on them to remember that change.  These tags stick with you.  We saw a film not too long ago called “The Ghost in Your Genes.”  It showed how if your family in the past few generations had gone through a famine, a plague, or if your great grandfather was a smoker, there is a tag.  They have found if your father, grandfather, or grandmother was a smoker, even a few generations later, you are more likely to get lung cancer.  They are realizing there is a tag that goes to that gene, and it makes that gene express itself differently.  It gets passed along.

Human beings were tagged a long time ago to have the problems we have today.  I want to look at that.  Back in the time of Adam and Eve, we were tagged one way and got changed.  Let’s go to Genesis chapter 1.   We are going to start in Genesis 1, verse 26:  “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’  So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

God tagged the human genome to be like Him, so we are made in His image and likeness, which does not mean just physically.  It means mentally, emotionally, and the way we think.  He said, you are going to be tagged in Our image.  You are going to be like Us, so therefore man was.

If you drop down to chapter 2, verse 8, we see things were lurking out there to catch mankind unaware and tag him differently.  Genesis chapter 2, verse 8:  “The Lord God planted a garden eastward inEden, and there He put the man whom He had formed.  And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food.  The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”

God put in the garden everything to protect that genome.  There was good food, pure water, and everything that was good for human beings.  But there was one evil thing there, and that was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil waiting to tag the human genome.

Dropping down to Genesis chapter 3, verse 1:  “Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.  And he said to the woman, ‘Has God indeed said, “You shall not eat of every tree of the garden”?’  And the woman said to the serpent, ‘We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, “You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.”’  Then the serpent said to the woman, ‘You will not surely die.  For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.’  So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate.  She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.  Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.”

Adam and Eve’s genome had been tagged with sin.  Up until that time, they were pure.  Up until that time, they were made totally in the image and likeness of God, but now there was something else above their genome.  It was the knowledge of good and evil.  It entered them.  It had tagged their genome. Their mind was no longer just in the image of God.  It had the image of something else in there.  It was a likeness of something evil.  It was the likeness of Satan, the serpent.

When mankind had been tagged, it changed everything.  No longer could God let them just stay in the garden.  No longer could He offer them immortal life because the genome was now polluted.  Satan’s attitude was now dwelling within the man, in his mind and in his heart hovering above his physical genome affecting his thoughts.  Soon there was the first murder.  Soon there was hatred.  Soon there was anger and violence.  There was all manner of sin.  We know that in Noah’s day the world was so full of sin God could not stand the earth.  That is how far removed the genome became because of what was affecting the epigenome.   Because of what was tagging the human race, no longer was it in God’s image alone but was Satan’s.

This tainting as we can see in Genesis 3:14-15 affected generation after generation.  Let’s start reading in Genesis 3, verse 14:  “So the Lord God said to the serpent:  ‘Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all cattle, and more than every beast of the field; on your belly you shall go, and you shall east dust all the days of your life.  And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.’”

Between her seed and the seed of Satan that had entered mankind and tagged the human genome there would be a fight to the bitter end.  There would be enmity from one generation to the next generation to the next generation, right down to our very time.  This has been affecting the human race.  We are tagged on both sides.  We have good and we have evil.  We can see people capable of wonderful philanthropy and then kill somebody in a fit of rage.  Human beings are very conflicted because of this.  God had to, of course, come up with a plan to get rid of the bad tags and get rid of the epigenome that had polluted the human race.

I want to look at the spiritual principle of this tagging by going to Exodus chapter 20.  We are going to start in verse 4, reading from the Ten Commandments here.  Exodus 20, verse 4:  “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them.  For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.”

We see a principle here.  When sin enters a person, God says it will visit the next three to four generations.  It is a principle.

It is very interesting to notice that in this human genome project and with the discovery of the epigenome, scientists have discovered that a negative event in your family’s past like the plague or smoking or a famine or a war or some kind of disease epidemic will affect the next three to four generations.  They have scientifically discovered and proven this.  They can see this tag, for example cancer from smoking, following the next several generations of people.  It is fascinating!  It proves this principle that God built into the human race.

We also have to look at the bright side.  The good things such as mercy and blessings go to thousands of generations!  The good things that Adam did or Abraham did continue and continue, but they are constantly at war.  Her seed and the seed of Satan are constantly fighting for control of the human genome.  Think of these two minds, these two epi-powers above the human being struggling for mastery.  God had to come up with a way for the good to win and for the good to get total control, yet allow us the free will to let it happen in our lives.  It is incredible!  We could go through many Scriptures to prove this.  We will just do a few today.

Turn a few pages to Exodus chapter 34, verse 1:  “And the Lord said to Moses, ‘Cut two tablets of stone like the first ones, and I will write on these tablets the words that were on the first tablets which you broke.  So be ready in the morning and come up in the morning toMount Sinai, and present yourself to Me there on the top of the mountain.  And no man shall come up with you, and let no man be seen throughout all the mountain; let neither flocks nor herds feed before that mountain.’  So he cut two tablets of stone like the first ones. Then Moses rose early in the morning and went up Mount Sinai, as the Lord had commanded him; and he took in his hand the two tablets of stone.”

Verse 5:  “Now the Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord.  And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, ‘The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.’”

God said, I am a merciful God, and I am giving you these Ten Commandments.  Keep them and you will be blessed for thousands of generations.  Break them and the next three to four generations will suffer.

Have we proven this in spades today!  We can see mental illness goes for several generations.  We can see different ailments that track along in families.  The first thing they ask you when you go to the doctor and you have diabetes or heart disease or cancer is what is your family history?  Tell me what your mother and your father died of and your grandfather and your grandmother, because there is a clue here to what is wrong with you.  They have understood this.  They have the physical proof now that we have the physical genome mapped.  We understand there is an epigenome, and we know that there are tags.  They have now discovered that we can untag a person.

If you have the tag for lung cancer from your father or grandfather and if we feed you this vitamin in a certain concentration, we have seen those tags change the switch of the gene.  We can remove that from you.  We can remove your propensity for such things as diabetes.  This is what they are starting to discover.  If they work with the software and figure out what the software above the genome is doing, they can introduce vitamins.  They can introduce influences like laughter.  For somebody with depression or somebody suffering from an ailment that is associated with an emotional distress such as anxiety, they actually now prescribe, in some cases, to go watch a bunch of funny movies.  Or they say to go read funny books.  It will change the emotional chemical makeup of you and untag the depression or untag the propensity for this or that disease.

They have actually found that laughter and happiness is good for preventing and fighting any disease!  It is that powerful.  They are realizing when they fight disease now, it is not just giving an antibiotic or giving medicine.  They know they have to cheer the person up.  If they are lonely, we have to make them feel less lonely.  If they are angry, we need to help them deal with their anger.  Anger management now goes with many disease-fighting protocols.

They are just starting to grasp how the mind, the body, and the spirit are working together because they see there is an epigenome over our genome.  This epigenome can be changed.  It takes a while.  It takes changes in habits.  It takes dietary changes.  It may be cultural changes such as getting rid of hatreds that have been in a culture for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.  They are realizing they have to win the population by getting them to see they are not their enemies.  Stop hating us!  They transfer that trait to the next generation and to the next generation.  We have to learn to break these cycles, so they are on to something huge!

What scientists have not grasped yet is that they are battling the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and they are trying to get people to choose the good.  If they had the knowledge of the Bible and the knowledge of Jesus Christ and His mind working in them, we could really powerfully change our genome.  We would get control of sin in our lives.  It is an amazing thing!  We need to put together good nutrition, a good mental attitude, cultural changes, and get rid of hatred.  Then we will cure heart disease, cancer, and all manner of autoimmune diseases.  It is amazing!  This is what science is starting to learn.

What are the lessons for unleavened bread?  You can probably already start thinking about that, but let’s look at I Corinthians chapter 5.  After talking about a sexual sin that entered a congregation through a certain individual, Paul says here in verse 6:  “Your glorying is not good.  Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?  Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened.  For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.”

The principle here is that leaven puffs up the whole lump.  What’s the whole lump?  That is the body of Christ.  Here he was talking about the congregation in Corinth.  He said, don’t you know, when you let that leaven into the body it puffs up the whole body?  You need to get rid of the old leaven and replace it with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth—God’s way of life.

That is the same as the physical principle of when you affect your genome and the switch gets turned.  It turns all of the switches in your entire genome—your whole body.  That is exactly what happens to the body of Christ.  It may take a little while like leaven spreading through a loaf of bread, but eventually it does.  The doctrine, the attitude, the way of life that is espoused in that congregation eventually gets accepted by all, and the whole lump is thereby leavened.  It is very important to deleaven.

Turn to I Corinthians chapter 3, verse 1:  “And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ.  I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; for you are still carnal.  For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?  For when one says, ‘I am of Paul,’ and another, ‘I am of Apollos,’ are you not carnal?”

He says you are leavened.  You are not understanding the sincerity of truth because you are leavened.  You are not getting it.  You are not listening to the truth.  You are not accepting it.

Dropping down to verse 18 of the same chapter:  “Let no one deceive himself.  If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise.  For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.  For it is written, ‘He catches the wise in their own craftiness’, and again, ‘The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.’  Therefore let no one boast in men.  For all things are yours:  whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas, or the world or life or death, or things present or things to come—all are yours.  And you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.”

You should be Christian.  You should have the mind of Christ.  But he says you are carnal, and you are deceiving yourself.  If you have let in the epigenome of Satan and there are divisions, envying, and hatreds among you, you are being run by another epi.  Something else is over you.  Because you are carnal, you are not understanding the truth.  They were in conflict with one another.  He says do not fool yourselves.  If you have this problem, get rid of it because you should be Christ’s. You should have His mind, the spiritual, not the natural.

If you go back to I Corinthians 2, it is well explained.  I Corinthians chapter 2, beginning in verse 6:  “However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.  But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory…”

In other words, the wisdom of the tree of life versus the wisdom of the tree of good and evil.

Continuing in verse 8 of I Corinthians 2:  “…which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.  But as it is written:  ‘Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.’  But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit.  For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.  For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him [the epigenome of the natural man]?  Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God [the epigenome of God, the image and likeness of God, the Holy Spirit working with us].”

Verse 12:  “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.  These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.  But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.  But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one, for ‘who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?’  But we have the mind of Christ.”

Then he goes on to say what we just read a minute ago.  I Corinthians 3, verse 1:  “And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ.”

This is because of divisions, envying, and hatreds.  He said you cannot even hear what I am telling you.  The epi of my genome cannot connect with the epi of your genome because you have shut off the Spirit of God with your carnality, with your leaven.  That is why a couple chapters later it talks about leaven, and how it leavens the whole lump.  We have to get rid of those tags and the propensity to let that leaven sit in our lives and to spread, so that we can understand the truth of God.  Then we can start untagging ourselves and become more in the image and the likeness of God.

Turn to I Corinthians chapter 12.  We just read what is affecting our minds—what is above us—can leaven the whole lump.  Here is why.  Read I Corinthians 12:12-18.

We are one body made up of many people.  There is a spiritual body that is the image and likeness of a physical body.  You can tag yourself or get affected by something.  When we get angry because Satan’s epi has affected our genome and we use our hand to strike someone, it is the same principle in the spiritual body of Christ.  The hand does not say I am not mad at that person, so I am not going to hit them.  The whole body is affected by the change.  Your hand carries out the action.

Here we have one body composed of many people.  It is a spiritual body, the Church.  As we saw in I Corinthians 5, if we let a sin fester in the Church and it is in one person, it will spread.  If it is a false doctrine, it will spread.  If it is an attitude, it will spread.  This is a truism because we are one body.  It is going to go right through the entire genome.  That is why Paul said, separate yourself from this person.  You have to get rid of that leaven and replace it with sincerity and truth, so it does not affect everyone.  As we can see, it gets passed from generation to generation.

The doctrine of doom and gloom has been transferred to the next generation.  We have seen that.  Doctrines of hardheartedness and judgmentalism we have seen get transferred to the next generation in the Church.  It will go for three to four generations unless someone stops it.  But the blessings of putting in sincerity and truth will go for thousands of generations.  Hence, the Millennium will result, eventually when God is done perfecting His body.

Dropping down to verse 25 of I Corinthians 12:  “…that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another.  And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.  Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.”  We are all together.

Then he goes on to say, in the body we have appointed apostles, prophets, teachers, miracles and gifts of healings.  We want these to work throughout the body, healing the whole body and taking care of the whole body.  We have to love each other, care for each other, and suffer long with each other for that to work.

If we have schisms, divisions, hatreds, and anger, we are making the whole body sick.  If we have kindness, gentleness, and the fruits of the Spirit, we are spreading health through the whole body.  It is all contingent upon what we are allowing to be epi over our genome.  What are we allowing to be over us?  Is it the mind of Christ or the mind and attitudes of Satan, the serpent, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil?

We have to cooperate with God to make this work, and He says, put out the leaven.  Replace it with truth.  Untag yourself, and develop good habits.  We will pass this on to the next generation.  We will pass this on to the innumerable multitude.

The physical and spiritual parallels can be looked at in so many ways and not just attitudes.  We can help heal people.  We can make them well.  We can make them get rid of depression and get rid of anxiety if we have the proper thing over our mind—over our genome—if we are affected by the correct epi.  If we are not and if we have bitterness, anger, judgmentalism, and hardheartedness, we spread it to others.  We can actually make them worse than ourselves.

The term “puffed up” or “puff” is interesting.  It is phusioo (#5448, Strong’s, 1995) in the Greek, and it comes from the word phusis (#5449, Strong’s, 1995) which means in the primary sense a blowing to inflate, figuratively to make proud.  Phusis means growth by germination or expansion, by implication natural production, lineal descent, by extension a genus or a sort, a native disposition.

What that is saying is when we are puffed up and we get attitudes of judgmentalism, hatred, or anger and that spreads like leaven through the whole body, we have now created a disposition.  We have created a genus.  We have created a person who acts this way, and it is the body of Christ.  It can be a terrible catastrophe.  We can actually turn a whole congregation into a bunch of judgmental, hardhearted, merciless people.  Go read II Timothy chapter 3, verse 2. We can become brutal, hardhearted, and unforgiving, and that is not Christ-like.  That is not letting the epi of Christ’s mind over our genome.

Putting out the leaven is really making us into the image of Jesus Christ, allowing His mind to be operative over our mind, over our genome.  Then love makes our hand do good things to serve others.  Love makes us share.  Love makes us forgive.  It puts us in the same frame of mind of God when He gave the Ten Commandments.  He said, I am a merciful, kind, and gracious God.  I want this kindness and grace to go for thousands of generations, and you can do this with Me if you keep My Ten Commandments.

We need to stop the spread of sin.  We need to make the body of Christ acceptable to what is good.  Turn to Colossians chapter 2.

Colossians 2, verse 16:  “So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ [the body of Christ].  Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind…”

Let no one cheat us of our reward by puffing us up in fleshly thinking with the wrong thoughts about the body of Christ.  That is what it says here.  Do not get puffed up.  Do not let that kind of leaven spread through the body and rob us of our reward.  That is how serious this can be.

Go back to Ephesians chapter 4.  Read Ephesians 4:11-16.

The purpose of the ministry, the brethren, and all the different gifts we have is to make the whole body become more like Jesus Christ.  This allows His mind in us to operate above us and affect us for the growth of the whole body of Christ.  That helps us avoid every wind of doctrine, the trickery of men, and the craftiness of deceitful plotting.  Those things are all in the Church in spades today.  Paul says we can keep that leaven out if we learn to be one unified body in love, caring for one another.  It is a remarkable system that God has put in place.

With this physical understanding of the human genome and what the epigenome is, we can understand what we are fighting.  Both the spirit of Satan that is in the world and the Spirit of God are above the human genome.  They are vying to influence human beings.  We can choose which we want to affect our genome.  When we choose the good, we are untagging ourselves and putting sin out, but if we let that sin fester, we are allowing that tag to stay in our life.  It is going to continue to cause us to sin, and we are thereby hurting the whole body of Christ.

The essence of letting Jesus Christ’s mind be in us is the creation of a new type of man.  Turn to Colossians chapter 3, verse 1:  “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above [above our genome], where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.  Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.  For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.  When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.  Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth:  fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.   Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience [speaking of believers that are not obeying], in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.”

This is talking to believers.  Once we were all in sin, but he is warning that we have to put these things out of our life and get with the mind of Christ.

Verse 8 of Colossians 3:  “But now you yourselves are to put off all these:  anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of our mouth.  Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him…”

We are going back to being a new type of man like God put in the garden when He created Adam in His image.  He had His epi running Adam’s genome and them being in agreement.  Adam was getting good spiritual food and good physical food and everything he needed to keep his genome pure and his motives clean. We are getting back to that, and that is a new man on the earth.  It is a Christian.  It is a human being with a physical genome that does not change, but it has a different epigenome—a different software.  It is helping to run us, and that keeps our tags from going evil.

Continuing in verse 11 of Colossians 3:  “…where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.”

That is the ultimate goal.  There will be Christ’s mind above everyone at some point in the Millennium.  He will be all and in all.  Everyone will be attuned with His epi, with His mind set.  Satan will have been locked away.

Continuing in verse 12:  “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies [put on these tags], kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.  But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.  And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.  And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

He says untag yourselves of the leaven, and tag yourselves with these things.  Then we will become in the image and likeness of Jesus Christ the way He had intended.

Turn back to Romans chapter 6, verse 1.  “What shall we say then?  Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?”

Once we are converted and covenanted with Jesus Christ, shall we keep sinning?

Verse 2:  “Certainly not!  How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?  Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?  Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”

It is the same genome being run by a new epigenome.

We should willingly turn ourselves over to a new way of life, to the new man that God is creating within us.  We should let His mind reign over us.  We need to yield to the mind of God and make it our epigenome.

Romans chapter 8, verse 5:  “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.”

He is talking to the brethren.  We saw earlier that we can be carnal minded or not, which puts us in touch with the epi of Jesus Christ’s mind or opens us to the influence of Satan.

Read Romans 8:6-14.

To be a son you carry the genetic nature.  We carry the epigenome of God.  That is how we have children.  They are of our genome.  This is saying we can be of the epigenome of God.  He is our Father and Jesus Christ our Creator.

Continuing in verse 15 of Romans 8:  “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.’”

We are like His genome.  We are now in His image and likeness.

Verse 16:  “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”

Now we see how we can use this knowledge of the genome and epigenome to our advantage, as we learn to untag our sins and replace those sins with the way God would live.  This allows His mind to rule over us and to rule over our genome.  By doing this we are putting not only leaven out of our own lives, but we are helping get leaven out of the entire body of Christ.

We want the truth of God to replace Satan’s way of life.  We want to get back to being in the image and likeness of Jesus Christ, like God the Father and Jesus Christ intended in Genesis chapter 1.  He is going to do this.  It is going to work.  We need to learn how to let it happen in our lives and cooperate with it.  We need to willingly change into a new man, so that we can then pass it on to the Christians to follow us and ultimately to the innumerable multitude.  This is what will result in a Millennium where people for a thousand years, generation after generation, will be blessed by what God has done through His people since He became our Passover right through the compilation of all the firstfruits.

It is a remarkable thing that we are a part of!  We need to keep this in mind and really sincerely try very hard to put the leaven out of our lives.
