In the King James Version and the Douay Version of the Bible, Matthew 24:3 is translated as, “Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” In the original Greek, the word for “world” was aion (Strong’s #165), defined as properly an age, specifically to Jews a Messianic period (present or future). Christ was answering their question by speaking of the end of two separate epochs of time. He clearly showed that one Messianic epoch, which we refer to as the Old Testament epoch, would end with the destruction of the temple. Another epoch of time, the New Testament epoch, would end with Christ’s second coming. We do not need to fear that the world will end.
