Good News: Decreasing Crime Rate

The incidence of violent crime in theUnited Statesdecreased by 6% from 2009 to 2010.  Property crimes decreased by 4% over the same period.  Arson was down by 9%.  This continues a trend that has been observed over the last several years.  Various reasons have been suggested for this improvement, including the sentencing of longer prison terms.  However, this is not likely the cause for the reduction in American crime.  Crime inCanadawas down by 4% in the last year, and there has been no change in prison terms in that country.  A headline on CBC.ca reads, “CrimeFallsto Lowest Level Since 1973.”

This is all good news!  We look forward to the time of Christ’s return when there will be no crime, and “They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea” (Isaiah 11:9).
