The United States is slowly coming out of the recession. Among the good news is the report that charitable contributions from Americans in 2011 increased by 7.5% over year 2010 to a total of $346 billion. This increase was much greater than the economic growth for the year. Although high unemployment continues, 75% of the giving is from individuals (with 13% from foundations, 7% from bequests, and 5% from corporations). Many know that it is better to give than to receive.
